Sprint to the Finish! The Commonwealth Games’ Most Exciting Night Is Here

What Happened?

Today, Friday July 31, is Day 8 — one of the most action-packed days of the whole event. Twenty-one gold medals are being decided today alone!
The spotlight tonight is on the 200 metre sprint finals. The 200m is two full laps of a straight track — a blistering race that usually lasts about 20 seconds for the men and 22 seconds for the women. Blink and you might miss the winner crossing the line!
In the men’s race, Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor is a top contender after posting the fastest time in the semi-finals. South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile also impressed with a blazing run to qualify. Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy, who already won silver in the 100m earlier in the Games, scraped into the final and will be hungry for gold.
The javelin throw final is also coming up soon, with Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra of India set to compete on Saturday. Three Indian javelin throwers qualified for the final — the first time that has ever happened at a Commonwealth Games.
Today also includes judo finals, pole vault, 800 metres, and more track cycling. There’s something happening almost every hour.
