Racing Against the Mountain! Rescuers Rush to Help Climbers in Russia’s Caucasus

As soon as the alarm went out, rescue teams moved into action. More than 50 emergency workers arrived to search the area. Helicopters flew to the scene too, airlifting injured climbers to hospitals as quickly as possible.
The terrain on Mizhirgi is very steep and rocky. That makes searching difficult and slow. The risk of more small avalanches also means rescuers have to move carefully. The search is still continuing as of today.
