Double Launch! SpaceX Breaks Its Own Record With Two Rockets 38 Minutes Apart

What Happened?
On Saturday evening, August 15, SpaceX pulled off something nobody had ever done before. The company launched two separate Falcon 9 rockets from two different launch pads โ one on each coast of the United States.
The first rocket lifted off at 9:12 p.m. Eastern Time from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. It carried eight satellites into orbit for a phone company called Globalstar. All eight satellites separated and reached space successfully.
Then, just 38 minutes later โ before the first rocket had even finished its job โ a second Falcon 9 launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. That second rocket was carrying a secret cargo for the U.S. Space Force.
Both rockets landed safely after their flights. The Florida booster touched down back at Cape Canaveral. The California booster landed on a floating platform in the Pacific Ocean called โOf Course I Still Love You.โ
SpaceX previously held its own record of 65 minutes between two launches, set back in August 2024. The new record beats that by a whopping 27 minutes.
These two launches brought SpaceXโs total number of Falcon 9 flights in 2026 to 96. That is almost two rocket launches every single week of the year.

Rockets carry things into space that people depend on every day โ like satellites that help your phone know where you are, or that beam TV and internet signals around the world.
Being able to launch faster means SpaceX can put satellites in orbit more quickly. It also means the company is getting very good at reusing rocket boosters, almost like a bus driver who drops off passengers and comes right back for another group.
The more often rockets can fly, the cheaper and easier it becomes for scientists, explorers, and businesses to get things into space. That opens big doors for the future of space travel.
