Up, Up, and Away! SpaceX Is Launching 29 Internet Satellites Into Space Today

What Happened?

Early this morning, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was scheduled to lift off from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Liftoff was set for 10:26 a.m. Eastern time.

The rocket had been ready to fly on Monday, but SpaceX decided to push the launch one day forward to make sure everything was perfect. Weather forecasters gave an 85% chance of good conditions near the start of Tuesday’s window — nearly like a sunny school field trip forecast!

Once in the air, the rocket’s first stage — the big main section — would fire its engines, push the rocket out of the atmosphere, and then separate. It would then perform a carefully controlled flip and fly itself back down to land on a floating platform in the ocean called a droneship. The droneship for this mission is called “Just Read the Instructions,” which is a fun name for a rocket-catching boat.

The upper part of the rocket would continue on to space, carrying 29 Starlink V2 Mini satellites. These satellites are roughly the size and shape of a large dining table. About an hour after launch, they would be released and float free in low Earth orbit.

This mission, called Starlink 10-19, is the 72nd Starlink delivery flight of 2026. After this launch, SpaceX will have completed 93 Falcon 9 flights this year alone. That means SpaceX launches a rocket roughly every three or four days — almost as often as some people do laundry!

Once working in orbit, these satellites join SpaceX’s Starlink network. Starlink beams internet connections from space directly to dishes on the ground, bringing fast internet to remote farms, villages, ships, and other places where cables cannot easily reach.

Why Does It Matter?

Internet access is becoming essential for going to school, running a business, seeing a doctor online, and staying in touch with family. Starlink helps bring that access to communities in far-flung parts of the world.

The reusable Falcon 9 rocket is also a big deal on its own. By landing and flying the same booster again and again, SpaceX makes launches much cheaper — a bit like how a reusable water bottle saves money and resources over buying hundreds of plastic bottles.
