Round the World! SpaceX Is Preparing Starship for Its First-Ever Trip to Orbit

What Happened?

Meanwhile, the giant booster — called Super Heavy, with 33 rocket engines — will separate from the ship and land itself offshore in the Gulf of America. SpaceX has gotten very good at landing its rockets, making them reusable like an airplane.
The launch window could open as early as September 22 from SpaceX’s Starbase in Texas. The schedule may shift depending on weather, technical checks, and approval from the FAA — the government agency that oversees rockets.
Why Does It Matter?
Starship is the rocket NASA plans to use to land astronauts on the Moon for the Artemis program. It is also the vehicle Elon Musk hopes will one day carry people to Mars.
Reaching orbit for the first time would be a giant leap. It would prove that Starship can do the things a real spacecraft needs to do — orbit, deploy satellites, come home, and be flown again. Each successful test brings the dream of humans living on other worlds one step closer.
